The New Snow Day.

With winter well upon us, and in light of the recent storms, I was just thinking about how the term “snow day” has changed over time.

Gone are the days when “snow day” meant a freebie day off from work. Technology has now made it much easier to work from home. Many companies, RITTA included, don’t skip a beat in inclement weather. In this new norm, employees use smartphones and have remote access to emails, files and servers. There is no stop in production, even when it is physically impossible to get to the office.

This is certainly a good thing for businesses. But what about the employees – is it a good or a bad thing? If you are a parent of young children, you now have double duty on your hands. As a mother of two-year-old twin boys, I know this from personal experience.

With that said, I would still rather put in the extra work of doing both jobs simultaneously, knowing my family is safe at home. I think it’s a fair tradeoff. (And hey, getting to work in my pajamas and slippers is definitely a nice perk.) So, good for all it is!
