Yes, it was the first week of July, and I had already purchased most of the items on the “1st-Grade School Supply List” for my twins!
This got me thinking that only a few years ago, I thought it was pretty ridiculous to see back-to-school supplies in the beginning of July. Kids have been out of school for only one week, maybe two! How could anyone be thinking about back-to-school shopping already?
Fast-forward 5 years, and here I am, seeing it from a completely different perspective. As the mom of 6-year-old twin boys, I can’t tell you how happy I was to see that their school enclosed the 1st-grade school supply list with the boys’ end-of-year/summer packets. It’s so nice knowing exactly what I need to purchase without having to wait for the first week of school, aka craziness.
So, maybe retailers aren’t just hungry to get a jump-start on the second-largest shopping season of the year, as I previously thought. Perhaps they are just fulfilling the need. Nah… they are hungry! But for once, it’s a win-win situation, and I am definitely one happy momma to get that task checked off my list before hitting the road on our summer vacation!
